While not all of you are local to the Southern Arizona area several of you have probably heard about Phoenix Comicon’s recent change to their requirements for volunteers. Specifically that, as several sources are describing, individuals will have to “pay to volunteer”. Well, as someone who does volunteer for the convention, here are a few things that have been left out of, or ignored in the articles that have been posted to social media (typically with rants from those frustrated by the change). Sherlock is back, which means one thing for certain, I’m going to be exhausted on Mondays. What’s not certain though is how much I’ll love this season. If the premiere last night was going to be any indication it’s going to be a mixed bag… filled mostly with goodies. Now if you have watched it, here’s my spoiler filled post up with details in a bit, but here’s the rundown on last night’s season four premiere The Six Thatchers. Life is hard. It doesn’t matter if you’re a teacher, an operations manager or a general overthrowing an evil empire. It gets busy or boring, and so we escape. Some escape into video games, or sports or in my case stories and movies.
I think that this is why it’s taken me this long to write anything down about Carrie Fisher passing away. It’s been almost a week and I’m finally ready. I get that grieving over someone that I never knew personally may seem to some as odd. Especially if those who find it odd were never Star Wars fans or nerds. Even I was shocked as how much Carrie Fisher’s passing affected me. The last celebrity I cried over was Robin Williams, he always made me laugh when I wanted to cry and his passing was out of nowhere. Carrie’s on the other hand felt like a sucker punch. Cosplay, panelists and competition!
As I look forward to 2017 (and a certain New Years Resolution to keep up more with my blogging), I spent some time looking back through some fun in 2016, Phoenix Fan Fest being a part of that!
Needless to say, the trendiest cosplays at Fan Fest were anything and everything related to Stranger Things.
This wasn’t that surprising considering David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown had a panel together, where everything from babies to drugs was discussed, with David Harbour saying that he’d love to play Indiana Jones some day, so long as he gets to pop anti-depressants before heading out to save the day.
And yes, he is as awesome in person.
Who else was awesome? Tim Rose (AKA Admiral Ackbar). He spent his entire panel telling us stories about all the creatures he’d built and brought to life (yes, his work on Labyrinth is DEFINITELY my favorite).
Finally, what other awesomeness did I engage in? PUGS of course, for an explanation see this post here. And for the first time since 2014 I WON! With a little help from my husband.
With Fan Fest just over a week away I have good news and some not so good news, regarding guest announcements.
The good news though, especially for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans is that Elizabeth Henstridge will a guest at Fan Fest this year, having a joint panel with Brett Dalton on Saturday from 4:00-5:00 pm, with photo ops starting at 11:00 am on Saturday.
Are you planning on going to Fan Fest? Who are you most excited to see? Let us know in the comments!
While it might seem like Summer is behind us, the Fall con season is right around the corner, what with Phoenix Fan Fest, Tucson Comic-Con and TusCon all within the next month-ish.
So, what am I MOST looking forward to at Fan Fest this year? Well, even with Doctor Who’s Arthur Darvill, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Brett Dalton, I’m all upside down over the fact that both Millie Bobby Brown, and David Harbour of Netflix’s thrilling and nostalgia filled Stranger Things.
If you HAVE seen Stranger Things, you should already have passes to Fan Fest… WAIT, you DON’T have passes for Fan Fest?!?!? Go GET passes to Fan Fest!
Really that’s all this post is about. Me geeking out over the fact that I’ll get to see Eleven and Hopper in less than a month. All that’s left is to order my photo op and wait like Barb did for Nancy.
